Indian Technical Textile Industry Will It Have A Swift Take Off

Indian Technical Textile Industry: Will it have a swift take off?

Will the Indian textile industry be able to take off now, or will it only be a
Dawdling progress?

During the past few years, market for
Technical textiles has been sizzling at the global range. The industry is growing at a
Very fast pace, especially in the Asian region. In India, the potential of this segment is
Still untapped. India has the capability to become a leader in the manufacture and trading
Of technical textiles with a potential to acquire 10% share in the global market. Despite
The rosy hopes, the industry is foretelling, investments in India continue to remain a
trickle

Indian Technical textile sector

Recent figures of the revenue generation of technical textiles industry amounts to Rs.260
Billion. Industry analysts positively assert that the growth of the industry will thrive to
Reach around Rs.520 billion in the next 3 to 4 years. Consumption of non-woven is expected
To grow from 100 gm to 250 gm by 2012 in tune with the increase in GDP

Growth of technical textiles in India can be augmented with various programmes of national
Mission and encouraging foreign direct investments. The Government and Union Textile
Ministry is showing interest in this lucrative and fully unexplored sector. The Government
of Gujarat state in India has announced special subsidies regarding the same. In the
Industrial Policy-2009, the Government of Gujarat has announced 6% interest subsidy on plant
And machinery for technical textile. Adding to this, the Central Government is also giving
10 % credit-linked subsidy and 5% interest subsidy

To get a more precise idea about the industry happenings, Fibre2fashion spoke with Mr. Chandan Chatterjee,
Director, iNDEXTb. He remarked that almost 10 to 15 technical textile units are on
Starting stage, with some companies functioning already. According to Mr. Chatterjee, the
total investments in this sub-sector are expected to touch Rs 12 billion in Gujarat
Alone

He further added, “Center for Excellence in Technical Textiles is likely to be set up in
Surat very soon for which details are been worked out by the Government of Gujarat in

The Role Of Energy Efficient Transformers In The Petrochemical Industry

Introduction

The U.S. petrochemical industry is the third largest in the world and a significant contributor to the countrys GDP. The US Petrochemicals Industry is also an indispensable part of the manufacturing and consumer sectors, churning out products such as fiberglass, tires, paint, plastic, rubber, detergents, dyes, fertilizers, textiles, solvents, and more.

In the recent past however, the US Petrochemicals Industry has undergone reasonably predictable lifecycle-path phases; from initial growth and augmentation to slowing down in marginal returns, and thereafter facing
possible downturns aided by many factors such as competition and resource constraints.

The future of the US petrochemical industry appears to be uncertain at present with the imbalance created in the market by the high feedstock process. According to Business Monitor Internationals (BMI) 2008 US Petrochemicals Report, the industry is also suffering the effects of a contraction in house building and car production, with output set to further diminish in 2009 and 2010.

Besides the ongoing effects of the recession, the US petrochemicals industry is faced with radical changes in the regulatory environment. The US is seeing a new policy climate with greater stress on tackling climate change through reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This move has major
implications for the energy-intensive petrochemicals industry. A bill seeking to make a 17% greenhouse gas emission reduction through 2020 has raised objections from the chemicals industry lobby. The industry could find it difficult to maintain both competitiveness in global markets and meet its carbon
targets, unless it introduces some drastic changes in the way it demands and uses energy.

Energy and the Petrochemical Industry

Energy is a very important cost factor in the chemical industry in general. The petrochemical industry is even more energy-intensive than other sub-sectors within the chemical industry. The sector spent about $10 billion on fuels and electricity in 2004.

The petrochemical industry is responsible for 70% of the chemical industrys expenditures on fuels and 40% of the expenditures on electricity. The cost of energy and raw materials are roughly 2/3rds of the total value of shipments of the petrochemical industry. Because energy is such a crucial cost factor for the
industry, improvement in energy efficiency is an important way to reduce costs and increase predictable earnings, especially in current times of high energy price volatility.

US manufacturers in the petrochemical industry also face an increasingly competitive global business environment; it is thus imperative that they reduce production costs without negatively affecting product yield or quality. Improving energy efficiency reduces the bottom line of any petrochemical plant.

Successful, cost-effective investment into energy-efficient technologies and practices meets the challenge of maintaining the output of a high quality product despite reduced production costs. This is especially important, as energy-efficient technologies often include additional benefits, such as increasing the productivity of the company and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.

There are a variety of opportunities available in the US petrochemical industry to reduce energy consumption in a cost-effective manner. Companies are thus coming together to begin the process of jointly exploring new and more energy-efficient processes that could dramatically reduce the dependence of the US petrochemical industry on foreign oil. The US petrochemicals industry is being hit by a rapid rise in energy costs and the The Role of Transformers

Transformers, besides other things like switchgear, converters, low-voltage equipment and power-plant solutions, are just some of the things that contribute to the efficient production and management of highquality
electricity.

Most standard transformers in industrial settings operate at full load and have 90 to 95% efficiency. However, one of the main reasons for energy loss in a transformer is due to inefficiencies in the transformer core. This issue is addressed in high-efficiency transformers that utilize the latest core
technologies to reduce core losses. The positive jump in efficiency is due mainly to the fact that the core is energized 24/7, even when the transformer load is turned off or disconnected.

Another issue of concern is that of transformer load. With the majority of the electricity used in the US being run through transformers at lower loads, sizable amounts of energy are being wasted. This issue is
of special relevance to an industry like that of Petrochemicals which already is a high consumer of energy.

The Need for Energy-Efficient Transformers

Compliant transformers are able to maintain National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Class 1 efficiency levels at 35% load. This is accomplished by using higher-grade grain-oriented steel in the core rather than the standard non grain-oriented type. Grain-oriented steel offers thinner gauge and purer
metallic material quality, reducing heat caused from eddy currents by limiting the direction in which current can flow. This narrowing of the magnetic field into a thinner profile also reduces the canceling effect of opposing currents.

Increasing the energy efficiency of a transformer allows the unit to operate at the same level of power with less energy being wasted. This has a large impact on the consumption and distribution of energy because the reduction in energy usage improves the countrys energy independence, reduces its carbon
footprint and lessens infrastructure investment.

Decreasing energy usage by reducing waste even by .03% over the next 20 years cuts the need for new power generation by 60 to 66 million kilowatts. That drop would eliminate the need for construction of 11 new 400-megawatt power plants by 2038.

Electrical power generation accounts for 35% of all US emissions of carbon dioxide, 75% of sulfur dioxide and 38% of nitrogen oxides. With higher-efficiency transformers, the country will see reduced emissions
of CO2, NOx and Hg of 678.8 Mt, 187.7kt and 6.48t over the next 30 years. Curbing energy imports will also bolster the US economy by reducing the current $65 billion trade deficit and mitigating fuel prices through decreased demand.

The compliant transformers will cost more than their lower-efficiency predecessors due to the higher price tag for grain-oriented steel, additional labor and higher raw material costs. While the compliant transformers will add to the cost of construction and maintenance projects, the end user will save this cost over the life of the transformer.

Benefiting from Better-Designed Transformers

Increasing the energy efficiency of a transformer allows the unit to operate at the same level of power with less energy being wasted in the process.
Electric power systems throughout the petrochemical industry are designed to normally operate at 50 or 60 Hz. With proper planning during the design phase of the power system for a petrochemical plant, certain harmonics can be minimized. Another way to minimize harmonics in the petrochemical power
system is to minimize the saturation of transformers by maintaining the operation of the transformer in a reasonable voltage range.

The system short-circuit capacity is an important factor in determining the impact of power electronic loads in the petrochemical industry. Where the power system is weak with a relatively low short-circuit capacity, the voltage distortion caused by the harmonic currents can be significant. Conversely, where the power system is strong with a relatively high short-circuit capacity; the voltage distortion caused by the same harmonic current sources might be negligible. Thus, one solution to minimize the voltage distortion caused by power electronic equipment is to install the equipment on a strong power source.

Energy Policy Act 2005 Mandates High-Efficiency Transformers

The Energy Policy Act 2005 mandates that distribution transformers meet specific efficiency levels starting January 1, 2007. The production of non-compliant models was to be halted by 2006. The catch, however, is that the higher-efficiency transformers also cost more to build than the non-compliant models. By mid-2007, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) was evaluating the efficiency standards for transformers because it was clear that even a slight improvement could save significant amounts of electricity which was currently being wasted well before it reached consumers. Efficiency in transformers would also reduce emissions from electric generating plants, as they would need to produce less energy.

The DOE was planning to issue new guidelines for distribution transformers by 2008. Once in place following a gradual phase-in, the new transformers are expected to save 26 billion kilowatt-hours annually. This will in turn reduce annual emissions from electric power plants by 15 million metric tons,
about equal to the average annual emissions of 2.7 million automobiles.

Pacific Crest Transformers and the Petrochemical Industry

Pacific Crest Transformers (PCT) has been catering to clients in the Petrochemical industry since its inception in 1919, thus making it possibly the only such company with 90 years of continuous domain
experience.

While the thrust towards energy-efficient transformers may be a relatively new phenomenon in the US, environmentally conscious companies like Pacific Crest Transformers (PCT) began eco-friendly initiatives years earlier.

PCT is committed to designing and manufacturing superior quality, custom-built and specialty transformers in the most cost-effective and responsive manner possible. The company has experience in building Padmount, Station and Secondary Unit Sub Transformers, and today specializes in environmentally friendly and efficient liquid-filled distribution transformers. PCT was propelled towards its energy efficiency initiative in its attempt to produce efficient, energy saving and therefore environmentally sensitive transformers.

The main thrust at PCT has always been customizing transformers after elaborate consultative processes
with the client. The transformers eventually built are based on client specification and are designed to fit
into the existing infrastructure.
Over the years PCT has designed transformers for:
Hazardous, flammable, or explosive environments
On-shore and off-shore platforms in corrosive atmospheres
Special taps and voltages as required
Harmonic loads from PLC and VFDs
High-pollution areas
PCTs transformers are present in environments where there is drilling and refining of fossil fuels, including natural gas, from areas with varied climatic conditions ranging from the hot humidity of the gulf coast to the frigid north slopes of Alaska. PCT Transformers are used throughout the process of
acquisition, transportation, and conversion of the end-products.

Conclusion

Energy is definitely a key driver of the Petrochemicals Industry, and so it is only natural that in the face of an uncertain oil future, companies take another look at the way they consume energy. Energy that is saved is considered the cleanest way of generating additional energy and steps to save energy are long
overdue.

Companies in this sector need to study their processes from an energy-efficiency standpoint and look at the various ways of conservation. With increasingly competitive times ahead, these steps taken now can
result in significant cost reduction. It may also be necessary to retrofit or invest in energy-efficient transformers, and restructure the existing energy system and here, working with a manufacturer that has deep domain expertise and sound long-term environmental strategies can make a real difference.

Voice biometric- an innovation to Enhance Security

With the expansion of protection techniques, the protection
breaking technological innovation is also enhancing. That has made the
regulators to go to even higher and more powerful safety measures, which
are close to strong. There are a lot of modern technologies for strong
protection but the voice verification is certainly the most powerful. In
simple words this is one technical innovation that uses human
interaction with the advanced level of technical programs, managed by
computer systems, to figure out the validity of a individual demand,
like watching data, starting storages, and many more activities that
have security problems expanded to them. With this technical innovation,
the automated connections will be designed to examine an individual
demand by using the designed procedure to examine voice as every person
has unique a voice and it is hard to copy someone’s voice using the
system to identify if the authorization for demand is approved or not.

This technology has many different kinds of systems
that are used to determine certain requests for authorization.
Preliminary innovation in biometric is the fingerprint technology. For
this, the program requires you to press your thumb against the
fingerprint plate, and the print will be matched with the database to
authorize or deny the request. Apart from this, there are voice
authentication, iris recognition, palm recognition, and other
techniques.

This technological innovation can be used in various
securities to figure out certain demands for permission. The very basic
technological innovation is the finger or thumb impression. For this,
the machine asks you for your thumb impression against the dish, and the
impression will be matched with the data source to approve or refuse
the demand. The most advances technological innovation used for this
kind of security system is voice biometrics. This technology works on
the voice of a person To join the system, the customer makes a
‘voiceprint’ by discussing a certain set of words. The voiceprint is as
unique to the customer as their iris, made up of 32 different components
of the person’s conversation pattern, both behavioral and
physiological. It is used as the electronic reflection of their speech
and as a standard of comparison when they call later on. When a customer
wants to get into the business program, they simply repeat their
passphrase. If the system suits their speech to the saved voiceprint,
they are provided access their private information and records.

Uniphore introduces this voice technique in India that serves its
purpose considerably that enables certain people to access certain areas
and information. This will restrict the visibility of important info to
a higher level stage, and protected it in a way that is identified as
powerful.

Voice Biometrics increases functional security for
companies and enhances customer experience. When companies employ
business flexibility solutions to link with their customers and workers,
it significantly decreases the costs and threats associated with
distant verification

The Importance of Time Management Is Clear. The Real Question Is, How Do You Actually Do It

We all intuitively know the importance of time management activities in our lives.

At it’s most basic level, time management activities can help us keep up with all of the competing demands that fill up our days – email, to-do items, events, meetings, etc. It can help you be more productive and it can help you get more done in less time.

More importantly, however, time management methods can help you begin to proactively weave a life you love. Once you have mastered several easy exercises, you can identify things you care about most and begin to build your life around them. This proactivity represents a dramatic shift from playing defense and simply managing the flood of things coming at you.

While the importance of time management clearly lays in first playing a good defense and then playing offense in your life, so to speak, the larger question is, “How do you do it?”

Whereas most time management gurus recommend first starting with elaborate exercises to identify priorities, I find that most people need immediate relief from the onslaught of demands. In fact, many of my executive coaching clients say to me, “Just make it stop!”

To do this, as a first step to get your head above water, you need to develop a few quick but powerful disciplines around managing emails, planning your calendar, triaging to-do items, and managing physical mail and clutter. Frequently, when people can master new habits in these domains, they can then “take a breath” and then carve out time for more advanced life and time management methods.

Next, take time to identify the patterns in your life. What seems to cause your problems? (Look for both internal and external factors). What seems to help you? What seems to hurt you? What seems to happen over and over? How can you use your strengths to help you?

With clear answers to these questions, then identify your priorities and start planning your annual, quarterly, and weekly goals around these priorities. Clear priorities can also help you plan your day effectively. With clear priorities, many people begin making dramatic shifts to their lives, such as paying greater attention to their health, their families, and activities they enjoy. Because they’ve learned core skills, they can turn these priorities into realities.

Finally, I recommend you take a systems mindset – like an engineer – and design systems in your life to help manage the details. There are many time management resources out there to help with this. Some excellent ones include automatic bill pay, automatic bank transfers, electronic to-do lists, among others. With a little creativity, you can design systems to work for you in many aspects of your life.

In short, time management exercises are important first for playing defense against the onslaught of modern life. More importantly, it can help you learn to play offense and proactively weave a life you love. To accomplish this, first focus on developing good habits managing the usual culprits – email, calendars, and activities. Then, once you can carve yourself some time, identify your most important priorities and begin building your life around them.

Good luck!

Trucking Industry Demand-supply Equilibrium

Virtually, the macroeconomic situation of any country relies on its Demand-Supply Equilibrium. There is an inbound tendency within the macroeconomic framework of any country, to maintain a balance between the demand and supply factors. Trucking industry plays an important role in maintaining a physical equilibrium within the economy. Domestic supply of materials to neutralize demand depends on trucking industry. Therefore, high degree of efficiency in the trucking industry is essential to maintain the supply side of the equilibrium.

Trucking software has brought extreme efficiency into the system of trucking industry. Functioning of a trucking business is highly improved by the induction of trucking software in this system. Indeed, trucking software has not only improved the efficiency of the trucking industry but it has also contributed in improving the macroeconomic condition of many countries. Technology has given a new dimension to the trucking industry. The new web based trucking software has further improved the functioning of this industry.

Demand-Supply Equilibrium is absolutely essential to maintain smooth functioning of the economy. A disturbance in this equilibrium can give rise to many macroeconomic complexities. There should be a proper balance in both demand side and supply side of the equilibrium. In the production and consumption segment of the economy, trucking industry plays a major role in maintaining the supply side of the equilibrium. Even a single day strike in the trucking industry can bring a whole nation to halt. In the event of a strike in the trucking industry, raw materials and goods could not reach their actual destinations for consumption. This event creates a scenario where demand for materials exceeds the requisite supply. Hence, the price of various goods and materials rise to an extended level. This price rise is termed as inflation. A smooth functioning of the trucking industry can avoid such type of disequilibrium in the economy.

In-order to maintain economic equilibrium, Governments across the world emphasizes on improving efficiency of the trucking companies. Trucks are the main components of the supply chain mechanism of any nation. To overcome economic abnormalities like price-rise and shortage of important consumer goods, high efficiency should be inculcated in the functioning of the trucking industry.

Tip # 3
“Research and prepare.”

Salespeople need to be prepared when they make their sales calls to prospective customers. So you need to emulate this at the recruitment interview, i.e. treat the recruitment interview just like you would a sales call and come prepared.

Most importantly, let the interviewer know that you’ve researched their company. For example, tell the interviewer you’ve researched their web site and / or products. Indicate to the interviewer that you have developed familiarity with what they do and what they sell.

Tip # 4 – “Sell your achievements.”

Salespeople need to continually achieve so you need to prove that you are also an achiever. Think of some of your most significant achievements from work or school and be prepared to talk about these in the recruitment interview.

Tip # 5 – “Talk about your powers of persuasion.”

You may not have sales experience but you probably have managed to persuade other people to do something in the past. Think of how you have persuaded someone to do something you wanted him/her to do, and how your objectives were met. Be prepared to talk about your ability to persuade others in the recruitment interview.

Tip # 6 – “Develop an understanding of what sales is about.”

You should have some basic understanding of what sales is all about in order to land your first sales job. So develop some basic sales knowledge such as how to understand customer needs and how to present solutions to your customers.

Tip # 7 – “Persistence pays off.”

Successful sales people are persistent – they pursue a sale in the face of uncertainty despite repeated rejections. So tell the interviewer how you have in the past persisted to achieve a goal in the face of adversity. You may wish to relate how you have pursued your sales career and the steps you have undertaken to achieve that goal.
